My boy Devon told me I needed to get an upgrade with my headphones. These are the new joints I'm getting. Nothing to special, but good enough for what I need them for. They are Skull Candy Hesh Headphones

I Love this Post

Behind the Box Score, where we saw the beast in Bryant

Los Angeles Lakers 126, New York 117

What can we say about Kobe beyond what we tried to scrawl down last night? I'm just pleased beyond belief that I get to witness two different players in my lifetime with the work ethic, drive, and talent that Bryant and Michael Jordan possess.

That's the thing that links these two. It's not the haircut, it's not the shoes, and it's not the fadeaways. The thing about MJ that Kobe so closely approximates is that willingness to work harder and care more about the final outcome more than anyone else in this league. Nobody even touches Kobe when it comes to preparation, and diligence, and appreciation for the craft. It's not even close.

The game, besides Kobe, was quite fun. Los Angeles' defense made a point to get out on shooters, but they also let some stray Knicks get away long enough to miss some open shots (Al Harrington, 2-6 from long range), or have several rim in and out (Chris Duhon, 1-6).

And in the fourth quarter, with the Kobester on the bench, it was Pau Gasol (31 points, 14 rebounds, five assists, two blocks) and Trevor Ariza (13 and 8 off the bench) that helped the Lakers sustain that lead. Pau may have had the best game of his career, my eyes immediately boggle upon seeing his line in the box score, before moving upward to see that "61" and thinking that someone may have typed the wrong number in.

Then you remember that Kobe played last night, and it all makes sense.

SCLOBO

This is the word of the day. It was my verification word for a comment I posted on my friend Kyle's blog... I thought it was hilarious. I'm trying to find a definition to put behind it, so I can use it in everday talk.... Any suggestions???

GREATNESS

This game is so dope. The credit card system is GENIUS!!! I was a strawberry picker with a Benz who came up with the cure for baldness and got paid 900,000. How great is that. My new favorite game.

Hilarious... This is going to be my kid.

My friend Omir sent me this. I thought this was hilarious. This is definitely going to be my kid.

An elementary school teacher in Boston explains to her class that she is a Celtic fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they, too, are Celtic fans. Everyone in the class raises their hand except one little girl. The teacher looks at the girl with surprise and says, "Mary, why didn't you raise your hand?"
"Because I'm not a Celtic fan
," she replied.
The teacher, still shocked, asked, "Well, if you are not a Celtic fan, then who are you a fan of?"
"I am a Lakers fan, and proud of it," Mary replied.
The teacher could not believe her ears.
"Mary, why are you a Lakers fan?"
"Because my mom is a Lakers fan and my dad is a Lakers fan, so I'm a Lakers fan too!"
"Well," said the teacher in an obviously annoyed tone, "that is no reason for you to be a Lakers fan. You don't have to be just like your parents all of the time. What if your mom was a prostitute and your dad was a drug addict, what would you be then?"
"Then," Mary smiled, "Then I'd be a Celtic fan".

From the President

No caption needed. He says it all.

Converse Undefeated Poor Man's Weapon

FORFEX P.A.M. Spaceboots

These are tough. I really wanted to get a pair, but since they have to get imported they were right at 210. I couldn't drop that much just yet, but they are still worth showing. These are completely weather proof, and look like a regular pair of fresh kicks. They are like the male version of Ugg boots, but in a sneaker. If your interested in them slamjam.com carries them.B e prepared to dish out the doe, but you will be FRESSSHHHH!!!

Teriyaki Boyz feat. Kanye west

Another sick Kanye production and verse.

My Version of 2K9

As many of you know NBA 2K9 is the best basketball game out for systems. I had one problem with it though, and that was the cover. I couldn't stand to see Kevin Garnett in that Vomit Green uniform pounding his chest like a Gorilla. So with the help of my friend Tony and Photoshop we were able to put together this customized masterpiece.

The Hobit is Back!!!

Jordan Farmar made his comeback tonight in the Lakers victory against the Spurs. He put up 14 points and 2 assists, not to shabby for 8 weeks off from a knee injury and a surgery.

81

Today marks three years since Kobe Bryant made history and put up the second best scoring performance in NBA history. He scored 81 points against the Toronto Raptors, this is second only to Wilt Chamberlain. Even if you don't like Kobe you have to give him his props on this one. You know its something special when all you have to do is type 81 in google and articles about Kobe fill your results. Don't believe me, go ahead and give it a try.

BYNUM!!!

My man Bynum went off last night in our 108-97 victory against the Clippers. I must say I have been a little disappointed with his performances this year after all the hype he gave himself. He had 42 points, 15 boards, and 3 blocks. A pretty good game if you ask me, but lets hope he keeps it up.

Killzone 2

This game is a must have game for the PS3. As a PS3 owner I know just how much we need some of our exclusives to drop. This one should put us back on the map. Already got my reserved.

Weapons of Choice

The Hyperdunks are nothing short of amazing. I am using these to play ball in for my intramural league this semester. They are light as a feather yet firm and sturdy. I really wanted the new Kobe Zoom IV, but I had to settle for these due to how rare the Zooms are now. I'm mad I call getting the Hyperdunks settling.

Hilarious

My friend Omir sent me this video via Facebook. I couldn't stop laughing.

A New Day

Today history was made as President Barack Obama took the oath and became the 44th president of the United States of America. Words cannot express how much this event meant to me and so many more, so I won't even try. All I can say is Thank you Jesus! God is good, and through Jesus Christ I can do all things!

Who's the best team, better yet who's the king?

Tonight's Cavs Lakers game showed how strong the Lakers are this season. They came off a two game losing streak to beat Lebron James and his Cavs. The two MVP candidates Lebron and Kobe went at it, and I must say Kobe won this battle. He played with 3/5 fingers in the game. He dislocated his ring finger in the beginning of the game and came right back in. Kobe finished with 20 points, 12 assists, and 6 boards. All I can say is he's a beast. Lebron your day will come one day, it's just not now.

Boba Fett Dunks

I'm going to start posting some of my kicks that I think go hard. Well these are the Nike Boba Fetts, my first pair of SB dunks that started my shoe collecting addiction back up lol. These come from the fall Super hero pack which included these, the batmans, spidermans, and venoms. I got these and the batmans. I'll post my batmans later.

Nike Foamposite Boot

I just ordered some of these Last night. They are pretty hot. The weather on this side of the countries calls for them hahaha. They are a hybrid shoe they mix the infamous Nike Boots with the Nike Foamposite shoe. Some of you may have heard Wale's song Nike Boots, well this is the new batch.

Kanye Remix CD

This is a remix mix tape. It's pretty live... Go ahead and check it out. Sky High

808s & Heartbreak

Kanye really did his thing on this album. I know this late, but I had to express my respect for this piece of art. Kanye went outside the box on this album and put together an amazing album. Most people think the album didn't do well because it's sells weren't as high in the US, but internationally the album had amazing sales numbers. That was Kanye's plan from the start, hence all the overseas performances and marketing. Good stuff Kanye.

Here is an exerpt from h is story in Vibe:

Kanye on putting out 808’s & Heartbreak so quickly…

“I could have put it out as a mixtape. I always wanted to do a mixtape called T-Pain Style. And I was like, if these songs are good as hell, why not put it out as a real album? And who’s to say what a mixtape , what’s an album. I aint have to drop an album either. What I do at this point is a gift. And I think people are complaining about their gift. They can either play with it or not! But don’t complain to me about the gift. There’s guys out there, nobody spoke on our behalf before. Whatever about the singing. F*ck all the singing, f*ck all the Auto-Tune, f*ck the He’s A Rapper, he’s not a rapper, he’s going through something, he has to get this out of his system, he’s crazy. F*ck all that. It’s men out there who have never had anyone to speak on their behalf about the way they feel in a relationship. We don’t feel like, ‘F*ck you, bitch, I’m going to f*ck a whole bunch of girls’. NO! We feel hurt. We feel pain. Like, ‘Damn, why would you say something like that to me? Damn, I LOVE YOU. Damn, I want to have a family. Damn, I want to find someone to raise my kids. Damn, my baby mama’s a bitch. Or she’s not a bitch’. That more than anything-more than the way I wanted to deliver this art-is the message behind 808’s.”

Kanye on 808’s being his best album…..

“I do think it’s my best album to date. No, I actually know this is my best album to date. Do I think it will be my best album ever? No, Ill improve. Do I think there are mistakes in it? Yes. There has to be. I’m a human being. But I think it surpasses Graduation. These 12 tracks are going to resonate more than any 12 tracks of any album this year.”

New Watch-Tokyoflash negative

This is the new watch I got from Tokyoflash. Their watches are known for their unique ways of telling time. I got this one in part because all it is a negative image lol. You can change the background color and the watch also comes in silver. Check out some of their stuff at www.tokyoflash.com.

ARIZA!!!!

My man trev is really going off this season. He is becoming the spark we need off the bench. While his athleticism and ability to get the basket is great, his defense is what has stood out to me most this season. My grandad gave him the nickname "the theif" because of how many steals he has been getting lately. That says nothing about all his hustle plays he has had this season, where he has made plays where there seems to be no play. Keep it up Trev. I say he makes one of the defensive teams this year.

How bout those Lakers!

This is a new season and my Lakers are off to a great start. We are currently 31-8 and on top of the Western Conference. Way to go guys. The big three are really living up to all the hype, and much props goes to Lamar for coming off the bench and leading that second unit. I'm expecting nothing but great things this season!

I'm Back

I know its been a long time guys, but Toothpick is back on the blogging scene.

We Made It!!! The MVP Award Finally in the Right Hands

Kobe finally what he has long deserved: The NBA's Most Valuable Player award. I must say watching the press conference brought a tear to my eye. Kobe has deserved this award for a long time now. The league has finally done him justice. Kobe was quite modest when he said he thought he would never receive this award. I would turn from the NBA and watch European basketball if he never earned a MVP award in his career. This is just a start to many more. Congratulations Kobe you deserved nothing less. And as Kobe said in the press conference, "We made it!"

Fat Dog!

The other day my friends and I took a trip down the ways to Virginia beach. It was my first time going to Virginia beach since I have been on this side of the country. I was fairly impressed; it reminded me of home. It was my first time seeing the Atlantic Ocean  and a overall great experience.
The highlight of trip had to be this beast of a dog I saw. This was by far pound for pound the biggest dog I have ever seen. I walked past it and had to do a double take because I thought it was a pig! I was like who walks a pig in public? This really must be the country, but it turned out they just had an obese dog.

Round 1

The opening days of the first round of the playoffs has been nothing short of amazing. As a matter of fact that may be an understatement. Today the Lakers faced the Nuggets in Los Angeles. One word: domination. The Lakers took the first game of the series with ease.

Thursday, April 17, 2008

Back on Top

The Lakers have finally made it back to the top of the Western Conference. Tuesday night they sealed the deal by beating the Sacramento Kings. The Lakers have barely made it to the playoffs the previous two years, but they are now in a position to do some heavy damage. They are playing Allen Iverson and the Denver Nuggets.
The Nuggets are not going to be a push over because Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony are a handful. The NBA's 3rd and 4th leading scorers will put up a big fight, but its going to come down to them playing defense. So far in the playoffs Kobe is 4:2 against Iverson in the playoffs, and he is the player with the most playoff experience on the Nuggets. This should be an interesting series.

I am an American

Smokey Robinson does a great job in describing who we are as Americans. Yes we are black, but ultimately we are Americans. He makes a great point when he says if America is so bad why are so many people coming and so few leaving? Thanks mom for sharing this.

Dreams of a King

I know I am a bit late, but its better late than never. As some of you may know Friday April 4 marked forty years since the assassination of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Doctor King was a great man who did and meant a lot to this country. He was dedicated and convicted to his cause. He pressed for equality and peace throughout the world. A martyr, man of God, and civil rights activist Dr. King proved himself to earn every bit of respect and appreciation we give him today.
In forty years this country has come a long way. We still have a long way to go, but we have made significant progress since the time of Dr. King. The question is: are we taking advantage of the opportunities we are being given? Are we really doing the best to take advantage of the opportunities countless men and women got beat, went to jail, and died for? That is a question we must ask ourselves in order to truly take this country to the next level.

Not So Common Talent

Last night I had the privilege of attending one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Common was nothing short of amazing last night. The concert didn't start off so great though. From taking two hours to get seated all the way to bad opening acts by the locals. It seemed doomed from the start. Pleasure P came and did a pretty good job at entertaining the crowd, but I couldn't help but to notice he was singing others music and drinking what looked like syrup the entire time.
Common came and saved the show. He came with fire from beginning to the end. The energy he brought was amazing; especially since the crowd wasn't all that big. Last night Common really did his thing. For everyone who loves rap and hip hop they need to check him out. He is a positive rapper who speaks of empowerment and has a real message. He also is an amazing lyricist. His name is Common but the talent he has is not so common amongst some of the rappers these days. Oh yeah and he had a nice bottle of Dasani water the whole night that he was sipping on, no need for all that extra stuff to perform.
