We Made It!!! The MVP Award Finally in the Right Hands

Kobe finally what he has long deserved: The NBA's Most Valuable Player award. I must say watching the press conference brought a tear to my eye. Kobe has deserved this award for a long time now. The league has finally done him justice. Kobe was quite modest when he said he thought he would never receive this award. I would turn from the NBA and watch European basketball if he never earned a MVP award in his career. This is just a start to many more. Congratulations Kobe you deserved nothing less. And as Kobe said in the press conference, "We made it!"

Fat Dog!

The other day my friends and I took a trip down the ways to Virginia beach. It was my first time going to Virginia beach since I have been on this side of the country. I was fairly impressed; it reminded me of home. It was my first time seeing the Atlantic Ocean  and a overall great experience.
The highlight of trip had to be this beast of a dog I saw. This was by far pound for pound the biggest dog I have ever seen. I walked past it and had to do a double take because I thought it was a pig! I was like who walks a pig in public? This really must be the country, but it turned out they just had an obese dog.

Round 1

The opening days of the first round of the playoffs has been nothing short of amazing. As a matter of fact that may be an understatement. Today the Lakers faced the Nuggets in Los Angeles. One word: domination. The Lakers took the first game of the series with ease.

Back on Top

The Lakers have finally made it back to the top of the Western Conference. Tuesday night they sealed the deal by beating the Sacramento Kings. The Lakers have barely made it to the playoffs the previous two years, but they are now in a position to do some heavy damage. They are playing Allen Iverson and the Denver Nuggets.
The Nuggets are not going to be a push over because Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony are a handful. The NBA's 3rd and 4th leading scorers will put up a big fight, but its going to come down to them playing defense. So far in the playoffs Kobe is 4:2 against Iverson in the playoffs, and he is the player with the most playoff experience on the Nuggets. This should be an interesting series.

I am an American

Smokey Robinson does a great job in describing who we are as Americans. Yes we are black, but ultimately we are Americans. He makes a great point when he says if America is so bad why are so many people coming and so few leaving? Thanks mom for sharing this.

Dreams of a King

I know I am a bit late, but its better late than never. As some of you may know Friday April 4 marked forty years since the assassination of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Doctor King was a great man who did and meant a lot to this country. He was dedicated and convicted to his cause. He pressed for equality and peace throughout the world. A martyr, man of God, and civil rights activist Dr. King proved himself to earn every bit of respect and appreciation we give him today.
In forty years this country has come a long way. We still have a long way to go, but we have made significant progress since the time of Dr. King. The question is: are we taking advantage of the opportunities we are being given? Are we really doing the best to take advantage of the opportunities countless men and women got beat, went to jail, and died for? That is a question we must ask ourselves in order to truly take this country to the next level.

Not So Common Talent

Last night I had the privilege of attending one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Common was nothing short of amazing last night. The concert didn't start off so great though. From taking two hours to get seated all the way to bad opening acts by the locals. It seemed doomed from the start. Pleasure P came and did a pretty good job at entertaining the crowd, but I couldn't help but to notice he was singing others music and drinking what looked like syrup the entire time.
Common came and saved the show. He came with fire from beginning to the end. The energy he brought was amazing; especially since the crowd wasn't all that big. Last night Common really did his thing. For everyone who loves rap and hip hop they need to check him out. He is a positive rapper who speaks of empowerment and has a real message. He also is an amazing lyricist. His name is Common but the talent he has is not so common amongst some of the rappers these days. Oh yeah and he had a nice bottle of Dasani water the whole night that he was sipping on, no need for all that extra stuff to perform.

Most Hated Great Player

Kobe Bean Bryant, AKA The Black Mamba, is the best player in NBA and has been for the past four years. His critics (haters) can argue all they want, but when it comes down to it he is the best. I say he is the best not just because I am a die hard Laker fan, and because he just so happens to be my all time favorite player. I say it because he has paid his dues to start earning some respect. I would definitely have to crown Kobe the most hated great player.
There are few players in the NBA who can play the same way on both ends of the floor. There are even fewer players who have offensive skills that can come close to those of Mamba. Lebron James is a great player, but when it comes down to pure skill and being able to score anywhere on the court at anytime, Mamba has it. Mamba has been elected to the all defensive team seven times in his career. King James has yet to make an appearance. Mamba has also been on the all NBA team the past nine seasons. He has yet to see an MVP trophy, but that will change by the end of this season.
I don't need to bring up the 81 points he scored Toronto nor do I need to bring up the month he carried the Lakers on his back and averaged 50 points per game that month. All his great performances speak for themselves. You can say he was a ball hog, he played Toronto, or whatever you want, but in the end he did what he had to do to take his sub par team to the playoffs in the western conference.
Many also criticize him as a leader and teammate. That is one thing I feel we cannot do because we are not in that locker room. From what I have seen Mamba has done what he felt was necessary to make his team better. He has always been outspoken about what he wants. It is no secret that he wants another championship and will do anything necessary to get another. He is a competitor. As a Laker fan I respected him when he demanded the trade. Yes I was hurt, but I understood where he was coming from. Upper management was really slacking and doing a sub par job at building a new team. That hurt the Lakers as a dynasty. Once he started making demands though, things started happening fast. Now look at the Lakers: battling for the number one spot in the western conference after barely making the playoffs the last few seasons. Keep in mind that Kobe has put action to all the talk he put out there too. He is doing his job now that he has an adequate team to support him. He is playing through injury and still doing whatever is necessary to make his team win.
As I conclude I just want all the Kobe haters to think. Think of why they hate him. What has he done that was so wrong? Yes he has made some bad personal decisions, but who are we to judge. Especially since he is not the only to make a mistake like that; he is just one of the few to get caught. Nevertheless it does not take away from his skills as an athlete. He didn't let that bs trial affect his game. He is the greatest player in the NBA right now and needs to start getting more respect point blank.
